But before you contact us, here is what you need to know before booking gorilla trekking permits with Get Around Uganda.
Choose the National Park for Gorilla Trekking
Uganda has two national parks where you can go gorilla trekking: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Both national parks offer unique experiences, with Bwindi Impenetrable National Park being the most popular destination, with more gorilla families and trekking routes.
Contact Get Around Uganda
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is responsible for the management and regulation of gorilla trekking in Uganda. The easiest way to contact them is through their website, email, or phone. However, this will not be fruitful since it is only registered tour operators that are allowed to buy gorilla trekking permits from UWA.
Therefore contact Get Around Uganda to confirm the permits available for your desired dates.
Check for Permit Availability
Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda are limited and highly sought after, making it essential to book your permit in advance. The UWA has a limited number of permits available per day, with each permit allowing one person to go on a trek. It is advisable to book your permit at least 3-6 months in advance to ensure availability.
Provide Personal Details
Once you have confirmed the availability of permits, you will be required to provide your personal details. You will need to provide your full name, passport number, nationality, and date of birth. These details are essential as they will be used to verify your identity on the day of the trek.
Payment
After providing your personal details, you will be required to make a payment. The price for a gorilla trekking permit in Uganda ranges is $700 per person. You will have to send the money for the permits to the shared account details.
If you are a foreign resident or an East African, you can buy the permits yourself directly from Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Receive Confirmation
After making your payment, you will give us a space of 5 days to receive the money. We shall then purchase the permits after which you will receive a confirmation email from Get Around Uganda with your gorilla trekking permit.
The permit will contain your name, the dates of your trek, and the location of the gorilla family to be visited.
Print Your Permit
Once you have received your gorilla trekking permit, it is essential to print it out and carry it with you on the day of the trek. The permit will be checked at the park headquarters before the start of the trek along with the invoices.
Get Around Uganda will also share with you the original hard copy of the permit at the start of your trip with us.
Enjoy Your Trek
On the day of your trek, arrive at the park headquarters early to attend the pre-trekking briefing. The briefing will provide you with information about the trek, safety guidelines, and what to expect during the trek. You will be assigned a ranger guide who will lead you on the trek to the gorilla family.
The trek can take anywhere from 2-8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once you reach the gorilla family, you will spend an hour with them, observing their behavior and taking pictures.
